Independent Study
|
|

|
To all college, university and high school students taking college courses:
You can use this trip as an Independent Study course and get credit for it. Of course you will have to look into your
college or universities policies and find a professor to sign off on the study, but this is not hard at all.
Your Independent Study subject can range from Culture, Communications, Political Science, Pirates of The
Caribbean, Slavery, History, Ecology of the Bahamas, Marine Life; don’t forget Dance and many more subjects that
will be relevant to your trip to the Bahamas.
How does the Independent Study course work? It's as easy as 1, 2, 3.
1) You find a professor that teaches the topic that you are interested in doing. For example: Your history professor
if you are interested in researching the history of the Bahamas while in the Bahamas.
2) With your professor you outline the course work; this means the different things you will accomplish on your trip
regarding your subject matter. For example: You may make a video documentary on Forts in Nassau outlining
who, when, where and why they were built.
3) With your professor you will also set up meetings to meet and discuss your course. These meetings will be used
so you can set up your course, evaluation by your professor, and your final presentation to your professor.
Note: You will have to pay your college or university for the course credit, but it should not cost anywhere near as
much as your regular classes. This is because you do most of the work and the professor sometimes is not paid,
that’s why we said earlier that you will need to find a professor to sign off on it, some colleges and universities may
have different policies so talk to your professor or dean about it, find out the cost and get all necessary paper work
filled out and signed to ensure you have a successful Independent Study.
