Follow Your Dreams

There is a story I once heard about a Wise Man who compared our dreams to building a castle in the sky.  Our responsibility, the Wise Man said, is to build the foundation underneath—to make our dreams become reality.

This month I want to encourage you to first dream your dreams, and secondly to work on making them happen.  Goals are important.  Goals help keep you on track.  Do you have weekly, monthly, yearly goals?  What blocks you or prevents you from achieving your goals? Re-evaluate your goals frequently—they are your road map.  Find two different angles on your goal to help you progress.

Focus.  There is so much pulling on us, distracting us, keeping us from doing what we say or intend to do…no wonder it often never gets done.  “The key is to stay focused,” says writer Ilyana Ban Zant.  Steer clear of the chaos and drama of daily life at school, at home, in class and at rehearsals.  Lack of focus will not only distract you from your goal, it will also drain your precious energy.

Also beware of those people in your lives that I call “W.B.’s” (wet blankets).  These are the folks, friends and family near and dear to you, who will tell you why you cannot achieve your dreams.  Know who they are.  Share your dreams only with those who support you.

Keep in mind this quote from Somerset Maugham… “It’s a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.”
